What To consider before buying Used Computer ?
Sometimes a new computer isn’t in our budget or it may be but there several cheap options easily available. In this case, you will need to know some things to check. There are various kinds of risks associated with different types of computers. A laptop, for example, is something that we should be more cautious about compared to a desktop computer. Parts are way easier to replace in a desktop machine. While you can purchase a computer from a reputable computer store like us, but than also here are few things to keep in mind before buying :-
- The lowest Specifications workable in 2021:- The very first step of buying used Computer is first t0 check Specifications Suppose we need a pc for our office work that means excel and email than go for pc which supports at least 4GB DDR3 RAM as it is more than enough and fast for our daily work in 2021 and most probably it will be for the next couple of years and it should have processor with minimum 2.0 Ghz speed. Now the last thing comes is hard drive as you are in 2021 and will run Windows 10 or something like that as your pc has already lower specs than it must have SSD drive to work very smoothly. Suppose you are buying from somewhere and it may not have SSD than never buy with Hard drive just negotiate the cost of hard drive with seller and let them keep it as the hard drive are slow and fragile and SSDs are becoming cheaper everyday so you can just buy new SSD. With Following specs your PC will not work it will fly for your desired work.
- Physical Inspections:- After Finalising Specs we go for physical inspection and Learn why physical inspection is important, Physical inspection doesn’t mean that a physically perfect computer cannot have any problems or errors, there is no relation of performance and physical condition of laptop or desktop but there is one big point to consider physical condition and that is how the device has been maintained by previous owners, if it has lots of scratches, dents than it means it has not been kept properly and it may have any error for e.g its hard drive may have sectors as it has been dropped or its screens may have lines after few hours use or if it seems very dirty than its fan may have lots of dirts that means a device may be overheating after few hours use and shutting down. So bad Physical condition does not mean that you should not buy it but You should check few things more carefully as they are prone to damage if not kept well.
- Things To Check:- After you are done with physical inspection and you have found out that device you buying has lots of dents scratches and dirt everywhere then now it’s time to check how it performs and how it is internally. Start the laptop or desktop whatever you are buying and see the time it takes to boot and carefully try to listen any kind of clicking sound from hard drive, if it boot fast and does not produce any sound that means it is good but than also using a software called Hard Disk Sentinel you can check the bad sectors and health of hard drive, suppose you get sounds from hard drive than there is no need for any software it has come to its end life and now it needs recycling, And if the used computer you are buying it has SSD drive then install this software and check the health. Overall Using either software or performance check the hard drive and don’t buy with hard drive. Now Check the keyboard as it it is dirty laptop chances are many key may not be working due to dirt so repairing keyboard is not possible so you should consider the cost of keyboards if buying laptop. Check all the ports and USB as if all are working it is good. Start PC and run any youtube video or any games or anything which require good hardware support and leave it for at least 2 hours and if its not heating and not giving any problem than it is sign you can go for fit. If it is laptop than open and close its lid fast and see if screen is flickering or giving any lines if something like that is happening then 3 things could go wrong either it need display replacement or either its display connecting cables are not connected properly or display cable is damaged, display can be changed or connection could be fixed but a damaged display cable means do not buy that thing because you wont get that anywhere easily.
- Cost Negotiating Factor:- First thing which help to negotiate the cost while buying used computer is its physical condition second factor is hard drive always try to negotiate the cost of hard drive and upgrade your pc with SSD third thing is working and performance if it good than no worries and if it is not and you thing it can be solved by some minor diagnosis than use your knowledge to save some money.
- Windows or Product Key:- Always buy a computer which have product key and incase it does not have or it is assembled one try to get it at half price of the same as per market. As original product key can help you to install original activated copy of windows 10 and original windows perform and functions lot better than pirated one. You can upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 so do not check the version which it has just check whether it has key or not.
- Available Original Accessories :- Before buying used computer always check whether it has its original accessories like adapter for laptop power cords and cable for desktops. A compatible adapter can harm laptop battery and laptop may malfunction while using adapter and also screen can flicker. If it doesn’t not have that than consider not buying or negotiating the cost of same.
